Citizen Tools For Extraordinary Evidence: Marine Radar

In terms of a multi-faceted approach, think outside the box and entertain the innovative idea of utilizing readily available maritime radar systems for observing USOs (Unidentified Submerged Objects). While radar systems are primarily designed for navigation, weather monitoring, and ensuring safety at sea, enthusiasts of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) may be interested in employing them for unconventional purposes, specifically observing airborne anomalies.

Let's explore some amazing features of these radar systems that may add an intriguing dimension to your USO hunting expeditions. The goal here is not to provide a buying guide comparing which system to purchase, but rather to assess the feasibility of using such a tool for collecting UFO data.

These radar systems have an impressive range of 15 to 25 miles. However, for collecting UFO data, such an extensive range may not even be necessary, as our other instruments are unable to capture objects at such distances. The optimal range is within 5 miles, aligning with our goal of not merely producing indistinct specks of light.

Furuno is a renowned name in the marine electronics industry. The Furuno NXT radar system is no exception.

On the left, a Furuno salesman is explaining the 'Bird Mode' feature, saying, 'Let's try to find some birds... they are small objects, but we can find them because they fly erratically.' This statement somewhat resembles describing a UFO.

Furuno Target Analyzer

Furuno's Target Analyzer can track moving targets. In the picture on the right, objects moving faster than 3 knots are highlighted in red during the demonstration.

Furuno True Dual Range

Furuno's True Dual Range can simultaneous streams short and long range views. The picture on the right shows one 12 nautical miles range and the other at 1/5 mile range.

Raymarine Quantum 2 Doppler Radar system is known for its compact design and advanced capabilities. While designed for navigation and collision avoidance, its Doppler technology could potentially provide UFO hunters with enhanced insights into the motion characteristics of detected objects.

The Quantum 2 doppler radar is tuned specifically to detect the radar echo frequency shift returned by moving vs. stationary targets. It uniquely color codes moving targets to indicate whether they are getting closer, or moving away. The green targets are moving away from the boat while the red targets are moving towards the boat.

It also has the mini-automatic radar plotting aid (MARPA) tracks up to 30 targets, helping you keep track of other vessels and avoid collisions.

Further more, the Quantum 2 allows for configuring custom safety or alarm zones and be alerted to new radar contacts entering the zone. It can then start tracking those contacts automatically, calculating their course, speed, closest point of approach and more. You'll be alerted to dangerous contacts with audible alerts and easy to understand on-screen graphics.

The Garmin GMR Fantom Radar Series combines cutting-edge radar technology with user-friendly features. With a focus on high-definition target tracking, this radar system could offer UFO enthusiasts a reliable tool for monitoring the skies.

The GMR Fantom is competitive with other radar systems and offers similar technologies. It shares the same dual range and radar support as the Furuno NXT. Additionally, it features a bird mode called Auto Bird Gain, designed to locate flocks of birds at the water’s surface, where baitfish are likely to be found. Similar to the Quantum 2, it includes a historical 'trail' for quickly and easily identifying moving targets and potential collision threats. The safety zone notification system is also available in the GMR Fantom.

While these maritime radar systems are not explicitly designed for UFO hunting, their advanced features and capabilities might provide enthusiasts with an unconventional tool for skyward exploration. All of these radar systems are competitively priced between $2000 and $6000, making them a cost-effective solution. Happy UFO hunting!
